The Menendez brothers, Lyle and Erik, became infamous for the brutal 1989 murders of their wealthy parents, José and Kitty Menendez, in their Beverly Hills home. Initially, the brothers claimed innocence, but their extravagant spending in the aftermath of the murders raised suspicions. They later admitted to the killings, citing years of alleged emotional, physical, and sexual abuse by their father as the motive. Their 1993 trial captivated the nation, with its mix of family drama and sensational testimony. Ultimately, both were convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, a sentence they continue to serve while maintaining their claims of abuse.
