Episode 47: Liz Allan and Randal Smith - Urban Fox's Revolution, the Innovative Pop-Up Charger for Residential Areas
Liz Allan has a fascinating conversation with Randal Smith, the Chief Operating Officer at Urban Fox and a seasoned expert in the field of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. They discuss the challenges and solutions surrounding the electrification of transportation. From working with councils to navigating complex forms for government funding to debunking myths about EVs on social media, Randal has seen it all. Join them as they explore the importance of a reliable electric vehicle infrastructure, the benefits of electric vehicles, and the role of accessibility in charging solutions.
Randal Smith Bio:
Randal Smith has had a diverse and accomplished career. After leaving the air force in 2015, where he ran the search and rescue helicopter force engineering elements, he joined Jaguar Land Rover. As the project manager on the Jaguar I-Pace, Randal led the team that developed the first premium electric vehicle in Europe. The car went on to win numerous awards and was named car of the year in 2019. He then focused on electrifying the Jaguar Land Rover UK retailer network, establishing a charging network and implementing safety policies. However, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted his plans. A telecoms company then headhunted Randal to develop their EV charging division. He successfully built the arm and established the company's presence in the industry. Randal is working at Urban Fox, a partnership between Urban Electric and Balfour Beatty Investments. They have created a unique on-street pop-up charger for residential areas, which has already gained positive feedback and is being tested by various councils. Randal's extensive experience and connections in the EV industry make him a valuable asset to any company.
