Darren Harriott is one of the most successful comedians of the current crop breaking through. He's done Live At The Apollo, Mock The Week, is one of the stars on new Comedy Central show, The Comedy Bus, and has an upcoming run at The Soho Theatre.
However, his path to the top has been far from conventional. Here, Darren tells BALANCE how he carried a knife in a gang and has had to overcome depression and a suicidal episode to get where he is today.
If you can relate to some of the things Darren talks about, or indeed know someone going through something similar, please check out the Mood Zone section of the NHS website.
