HROs encourage, actually seek out, conflicting opinions.  Systems existing in the fire service, such as CRM and ICS, encourage this behavior.  Why is constructive conflict encouraged?  Because they help us discover the human factors that lead to mistakes, accidents, and LODDs.  This show provides an overview of CRM's strengths in relation to an HRO and why they are so important to the future of the fire service.

 

Craig Nelson has been in the fire service for over ten years.  He works for the Fargo (ND) Fire Department and works part-time at Minnesota State Community and Technical College -- Moorhead as a fire instructor.  He has a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in executive fire service leadership.

 

Dane Carley entered the fire service in 1989 in southern California and is currently a captain for the Fargo (ND) Fire Department.  He has both a bachelor's degree in fire and safety engineering technology, and a master's degree in public safety executive leadership.  Dane serves as both an operations section chief and a planning section chief for North Dakota's Type III Incident Management Assistance Team, which provides support to local jurisdictions overwhelmed by the magnitude of an incident.

 

Jeff Wallin joined the fire service in 1987, serving in several roles with St. Francis (MN) Fire & Rescue, Allina Transportation (St. Paul, MN), Dakota County Techncial College, Red Wing/Winona Technical College, and Minnesota State Community and Technical College. He is currently employed by the Moorhead (MN) Fire Department as Assistant Chief in charge of training and administration. Jeff holds a Bechelor in Fire and Life Safety Engineering Technology from the University of Cincinnati and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND.
