Lydia and Tim are back in New York where they talk to filmmaker and writer Eva Aridjis. Eva was born in the Netherlands and grew up in Mexico City.

Her father Homero Aridjis is a well-known poet and the former Mexican Ambassador to both the Netherlands and Switzerland. Eva’s mother Betty Ferber de Aridjis, is a translator. Eva discusses how her parents' creative life influenced her growing up.

Eva studied Anthropology at Princeton and then received an MFA in Film and Television from NYU. She has made several noted documentaries. Lydia asks Eva about the challenges involved in making Niños de la Calle (2003) a documentary that delves into the lives of children living on the streets of Mexico City. Niños de la Calle won the Best Feature Documentary prize at the Morelia Film Festival. Eva and Lydia also discuss La Santa Muerte the Mexican folk saint associated with protecting the lives of those who are sick, living a dangerous lifestyle, criminals and drug addicts.  Eva’s 2007 documentary La Santa Muerte (Saint Death) follows several worshippers of La Santa Muerte.

Besides making films, Eva also writes for television. She talks about her experience as a writer for the Netflix show Narcos Mexico.
