On 9 November 1971 John List shot and killed his wife Helen and his mother Alma. When his children Patricia and Frederick arrived home from school he shot and killed both of them as well. He then picked his other son John up, took him home and shot and killed him as well. He cleaned up the house, left a religious radio station on, slept through the night and then left. He was on the run for 18 years until he was finally caught and convicted.
This is Part One of the story of Helen, Patricia, Frederick, John Frederick and Alma List.
