Crime, Wine & Chaos

Episode 75 – "The Killer Landlady" & The Yuba County Five

Listen Later

This week, Erika covers the WTF story of Dorothea Puente. Dorothea looked like a typical little old granny, petite, white haired, big ole glasses, and wore granny style outfits.  As we all know, looks can be deceiving and in Dorothea’s case she deceived many wonderful and trusting people. She became a well-respected part of the community in Sacramento known mostly for running a boarding house for the elderly and mentally disabled. In one way this whole story could have been chalked up to her just being greedy and manipulative, well that was until she decided to murder at least 9 of her unsuspecting tenants.

Erika was drinking Huckleberry D’ Latah from Latah Creek Wine Cellars.  It is a White wine that is blended with Huckleberry juice and concentrate.  A little sweet for my liking but very refreshing and tasty to say the least.  Latah Creek Wine Cellars is located in Spokane Valley, WA.

Then Amber covers the Yuba County Five. The Yuba County five were five young men from Yuba County, California. The all had mild intellectual disabilities, they each lived with their parents, and they were referred to by their parents as "the boys". They were the best of friends and they all had a deep love for sports. On the night of February 24, 1978, they attended a California State University basketball game in Chico, California, about 50 miles from home. A stop at a convenience store for snacks after the game would be the last time the boys were ever seen alive.

Amber was drinking a South Australian Grenache from Mannifera Cellars.  Very tasty!
