Stress and anxiety can be an issue for cancer patients. “It has an effect on cognition and the ability to focus, and it can lead to a cascade of physical effects,” said Maryanna Klatt, PhD, an Ohio State Professor of Clinical Family Medicine. In this episode, we talk with Klatt about how to handle the stress and anxiety of a cancer diagnosis and treatment, and the eight-week Mindfulness in Motion class she has developed for James patients that has become a national model. The goal of the Mindfulness in Motion course is to let patients know they’re not alone, others are dealing with the same issues, and to give them the tools they need “so that you can respond to the events in your life … to enhance your response to stress, which is a valuable tool.” This episode includes a mindfulness exercise, at the end, and here's the link to other mindfulness exercises led by klatt: https://u.osu.edu/klatt-8/
