The James Cancer Diagnostic Center, which opened in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, recently celebrated its first anniversary. The cancer experts at the center have diagnosed a wide variety of cancers, according to medical director Raquel Reinbolt, “from early-stage cancers to, unfortunately, some late-stage cancers.” In this episode, Reinbolt visits and talks about how the center went from an idea to a reality in a just a few months. “In the midst of the pandemic, so many patients shied away from doctor’s appointments, screenings and hospitals,” she said, adding many people were concerned and scared about suspicious lumps and growths, unexplained night sweats, as well preliminary screenings and X-rays at a local medical center that showed an unexplained abnormality. Anyone who suspects they may have cancer can call the center (800-293-5066) and make a same-day or next-day appointment. Once they arrive, the James team of experts meet with a new patient, schedule the appropriate diagnostic tests, and then discuss the results, all in a matter of a few days. If a diagnosis of cancer is confirmed, an appointment with the James oncology team that specializes in that specific type of cancer will be scheduled. Patients who do not have cancer, may still need expert medical attention, and will be advised on the next and necessary steps for treatment. “We’ll continue to build on what we’ve started,” Reinbolt said of the future of the diagnostic center.
