Dennis Rader grew up in Wichita, Kansas. Details about his early life are limited, but there are reports of him exhibiting disturbing behavior like harming animals. After high school, he had a short stint in college but dropped out and joined the Air Force in the mid-60s. Upon discharge in 1970, he returned to Wichita, married, and took various jobs, including one at a security company. By 1974, he seemed to be living a normal life, but beneath the surface, his dark urges were brewing. On January 14, 1974, Dennis entered the home of the Otero Family, making this his first set of murders.
