The cross wasn’t an event that in any way changed God’s mind about us, but rather it ultimately changed our minds about Him. The cross doesn't change God's character; it reveals it. This means that God has always been as the cross shows Him to be. Hebrews 13:8 emphasizes this, stating that Jesus Christ remains the same yesterday, today and forever. The God shown on the cross is the same God who inspired Scripture to ultimately reveal Himself through the cross.
