Depression falls into five main categories based on the neurotransmitters involved, says nutritional medicine expert, Dr. William J. Walsh.
His research shows that depression significantly improves for 80 to 85 percent of people through targeting their specific neurotransmitter problem with the right nutrients. This is to be expected given that nutrients, like amino acids, vitamins, and minerals are raw materials for making neurotransmitters.
Dr. Walsh joins Vitals Signs with Brendon Fallon to reveal how depression and other mental illnesses can be treated using targeted nutrient therapy.
For example, in testing 800 cases of postpartum depression, an elevated copper level was identified as the major problem, he says.
“We have four genes in our DNA that have the job of regulating copper. They’re called metallothionein genes, and we now have treatments that can increase expression of metallothionein,” he says.
Dr. Walsh is an internationally recognized expert in nutritional medicine. More than 1,200 physicians and medical practitioners have now been trained in his targeted, nutrient therapy approach.
Alongside environmental factors, how can our DNA incline us toward depression? What major nutritional oversight could be driving the elevated levels of depression that we now see in America?
From its neuro-biochemical to nutritional aspects, we explore Dr. Walsh’s breakthrough method for understanding and treating depression on Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon.
