What started out as an afternoon with friends has turned into an event you don't want to miss out on. Skijourdue, who doesn't like to eat cheese, go fast on a horse while pulling a skier or boarder. Today Heather is speaking with Sam Mitchell from Millarville Alberta, CEO of Skijor Canada.  They are discussing this amazing event she started as a way to bring the cowboy culture together with the ski community all while enjoying some cheese fondue and maybe a few beers. Skijoring may have started in Scandinavia  as a sport of Ski Driving that has turned into a world wide horse/ski winter sport. So dig out your fur, fringe, colour, spandex, sun glasses and a cowboy hat so you will fit in with your Skijor style.

On today's episode Ute talks with Amy Haldane, stud manager at her family's farm and breeder of Icelandic Horses in Australia. Her family was the first to import Icelandic Horses from Denmark and later from Iceland to Australia. And they have thrived! Today there are around sixty horses at her farm and she has foals every year. Amy has also founded the Icelandic Horse Association of Australia in order to firmly establish the breed in their new home Down Under.

On today’s episode, Ute talks with Edda Tischer, trail rider and Equestrian Adventuress from Germany. In September 2020 Edda rode together with her friend from her home in Saxonia-Anhalt to the theme park Pullman City in the Harz Mountains. They covered around 100 km in seven days to reach their destination. Edda tells about how she prepared the ride and talks a little bit about how she planed her route, different gear suitable for multiple day rides and what she loves about trail riding.

Today is the first episode of our new Horse Breeds Around the World Series. We start with a famous British Pony breed, the Fell Pony of North England. Its home is in Cumbria and it takes its name from the word fell which is another term for hill or highland. The Fell pony is a hardy breed, well suited for a life outside in the often harsh weather of the mountains of Cumbria. Ute talks with Libby Robinson, Fell Pony Breeder and founder of the Fell Pony Heritage Trust. Libby tells us all about the origin of the Fell Pony, its uses and how the Fell Pony is a conservation grazer and has shaped the landscape of its home on the fells. But the future of the pony is not very bright with declining numbers and farmers giving up the tradition of pony keeping. Libby tries to create awareness of the role of the Fell Pony in the region and hopes that more young people can connect and help in saving it.

On today's episode Heather speaks with Leanne Peniuk, local equine photographer from Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. Leanne is the photographer and partnering collaborator on the book Rescue me.  This book began with an idea, many stories to share, the hard ones that not everyone want to hear. This book tells the stories of horses that have been seized or surrendered to the SPCA. Some coming from pretty terrible circumstances, who have overcome adversity and have been given a second chance. The profits from this book are being donated to aid in the care and rehabilitation of seized horses.

Christiane has travelled all over the world to photograph horses and she is one of the few who can live from her work. Her photos appear in many different horse books, magazines and calendars internationally. In 2019 she published her latest book “A World Full of Horses” describing her travels and of course featuring many of her best photos. Today we talk about the next chapter in her book which talks about her journey to the Shetland Islands and her encounter with the incredibly cute Shetland Ponies on Great Britain's northernmost outpost. Christiane discloses her secret love for ponies and tells us all the adventures she had on her trip besides passing on some cool information about the Shetland ponies and their homeland. How high can you jump ? now add side saddle to that challenge! In todays episode Heather is speaking with Susan Oakes Guiness world record holder for jumping 6'8" (2.07m) side saddle. Yes you read that correct she cleared a 6'8" wall sitting side saddle. This wasn't an easy feat to accomplish. Susan spent many hours over 2 years in the saddle on multiple horses and trying over 40 different side saddles to complete this task.
