  • How to set goals and the goal-setting framework

Is goal setting a mystery to you? Do you think you have it figured out? Today we are going to discuss goal setting in conjunction with your vision, the reasons you don’t achieve your goals, then the how-to, the steps you need to take, and the framework you will use when you write out your goals.

There is a lot of debate about goal setting. I have seen social media posts that say you shouldn’t focus on goals because it could hurt your mindset. Then there are others that say goal setting is an essential part of being successful.

So what’s the right answer? My belief is that you must be setting goals, however, there is an order to things.

  • How crafting a vision will make a difference for you

I’ve heard a lot of entrepreneurs ask the question, does vision make a difference? Do I need more than my mission statement, vision statement, and values?

Those are great questions, and I am always excited to hear them because I know that the entrepreneur asking them is thinking about what is significant and they are thinking about the future.

Stick around because I want to tackle those questions in this episode, and help you to understand why and how vision can make a difference in your business and your life.

  • Why are you putting off crafting a vision?

As an entrepreneur, I know there is nothing more annoying than not knowing what to do next. Then, if you can’t figure it out you just avoid it because that is taking up too much of your brain space and distracting you from what’s urgent and important.

You know that casting vision is important, so you have chosen not to avoid it. But, how does it work? Is it as simple as saying this is what my dream is, so off I go in that direction?

There is often a sort of short-sightedness that plagues entrepreneurs surrounding their unwillingness to look at and examine vision, and then to cast vision. In this episode, I want to look at the three reasons why entrepreneurs avoid the subject of vision.

  • What moon shot is hidden in you?

Without vision, you are guaranteed to fail. Vision is what will carry you through when you are faced with challenges.

President John F. Kennedy understood the importance of vision, and he cast a vision so audacious it took years to become a reality.

And on July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the moon. He was famously recorded saying, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

In this episode, I want to talk with you about moon shots and what that looks like for you as an entrepreneur, how you need to be thinking, and what you should do.

Are you leading or managing? There is an important distinction that needs to be made, so in this episode, we are going to make the differentiation and talk about why this matters to you as an entrepreneur.

If you don’t make a distinction between leading and managing I hope that over the course of this episode I can articulate and highlight why you should see them differently.

  • Ep. #21 - The Development of Innovation

    Notes

What does it really mean for you to be innovative, and what does crafting a culture that celebrates innovation do for you and your business?

You will hear me say this over and over, you should be focused on what is significant. Those are things that have the biggest long-term impact on your business, and therefore your life. You don’t want to have your schedule (or calendar, whatever term suits you best), you don’t want that controlled by the urgent and important. Those are distractors from significance.

As an entrepreneur, you need to constantly have your eye on the significant things that are going to move you, your business, and your team toward the vision, keeping on track to achieve goals, staying on the strategic road map you developed.

  • Ep. #20 - Creating Future Leaders

    Notes

Why would I be talking to entrepreneurs about creating future leaders? Well, have you ever considered the future of your business? Have you considered your legacy?

Why is it important to create future leaders? I asked a minute ago if you have ever considered your legacy and the future of your business. I have a couple more questions for you.

Do you want to stay where you are forever? How is the future better if you don’t create future leaders?

  • Ep. #18 - Don't Miss the After Action Review

    Notes

Can you think of a time where you started a project that had been done before, but no one could tell you any lessons learned? There is a way to capture the lessons learned and make your path from project start to completion faster and easier.

What is the way to go from project start to completion faster and easier? It is called an After Action Review, or AAR. There are some questions that need to be asked and answered, so let’s get started.

What is an after-action review, or AAR? What is it not? What is the purpose behind doing an AAR? How do you go about conducting an AAR? What are the inputs and outputs? In this episode of the Advantaged Business Solutions podcast, I want to answer these questions and discuss the advantages of applying these lessons learned to your next project.
