We’re going to take some time today to introduce you to what I’m calling The Circle of Light Project from 1991. We had some notes about it in our programs and in our centerpiece and so some of you probably have already familiarized yourself a little bit with what we’re doing.
It all started in a dream. In the vision I had in the dream I saw Avery Fisher Hall perched atop a high hill. It seemed really confusing at first, but there it was sitting on this high hill radiating with light, rays reaching out around the world from this one source. A few days later in a meditation time the project unfolded and it seemed so very right. I remember Jesus’ words, “A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do men light a lamp and set it under a bushel but on a stand and it gives light to all the house.”
In Psalm 37, the psalmist sings, “Commit thy way unto the Lord. Trust in him and he should bring it to pass.” Commit thy way unto the Lord, and the Lord means law. The law of being, the law of mind action. It’s the law both of your divine potential and the law of the mind action that controls its expressions.
The key word here is the word commit. Commitment is an old fashioned value that has almost lost its meaning in our time. Serious question is, you’ve made a commitment to the Lord of your being, the to truth, to the idea or right or righteous thinking or living. Or is the truth simply something you read or hear about and conveniently lay it aside like a book?
I would like us to share some ideas today on the subject of “bonding or binding. Perhaps we should define our terms.
When we’re talking about bonding, we’re talking about the movement between individuals to develop an interconnectedness, a love, mutual trust, and sharing and caring. A transcendent awareness so strong that there’s oneness even in separation, there’s no holding on. Complete unrestricted love, a feeling of he will always be there. This is bonding, it’s a relative term.
The other word is binding. We’re using this particularly because of its euphonious nature, but basically, we think of it as a metaphor for all it is not working toward bonding. Is a binding process that takes place within us, which blocks the flow, which breaks the interconnectedness. We begin to think selfishly, we begin to worry, we have negative feelings about a relationship, or binding.
