What is the book of Esther about? Is it about the establishment of the feast of Purim or is it about the greater feast that is established by the true king of the Jews? Is the king merely Mordacai or is the King a superior one who rounds His people up frorm the nations? Please listen to the epilogue of Esther as we consider these questions in light of the book of Esther.

This is the climax of the book in Act 3 where we see the two decrees of Hamaan and Mordacai enforced. However, the winner of the decree is the winner of the eternal battle between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent. We see here that God will indeed bring His people to the heavenly city through ironic reversals by raising the greater king through the seed of the woman.

In this message we continue to see the tension resolve in Act 3. This message is titled from Exile to Exaltation because we hear the new decree commanding the Israelites to take up arms 70 days after Hamaan’s decree. The Seed of the Woman will subdue the serpent seed.

In this sermon we examine the first scenes in Act 3 as the tension in the book comes to a rest. This Message is titled Agag’s Annihilation. The Queen makes her request to the king regarding Hamaan’s decree against the Jews. She never makes an official request regarding his demise, but when Hamaan violates the Harem stipulations the king acts without advisors. A greater king will exterminate the serpent seed and the Lord will indeed wipe out the memory of Amalek’s name from under heaven as Hamaan is impaled upon the Stake.

In this sermon we examine scenes 9-10 in act 2 of this book. This Message is titled Saul’s Finished Business. The end of act 2 comes to a close as the tension in Esther. The presence of the Exodus God is seen as this king has a sleepless night. The providence of God manifests itself clearly as Ahasuerus reads the chronicles of the kingdom realizing that there is a man who has not been compensated for saving his life. Ironically, the serpent king is overruled as Mordacai is to be crowned king before the eyes of Hamaan. The Lord will defeat the Amelakites as He promised after His exodus.

In this sermon we examine scenes 7-8 in act 2 of this book. The three-day fast has come to a close and now we wait to see if the Lord will bring about a greater exodus. They have skipped the Passover feast waiting for the greater Passover. As Esther hosts this feast Hamaan celebrates his victory over Israel. Ironically, Esther’s feast undoes the banquet of Hamaan, and Hamaan’s celebration ironically celebrates the victory of God. Thus, both Esther and Hamaan project the greater future exodus of God’s city building Endeavor.

The post From Fasting to Feasting (Esther 5:1-14) appeared first on Covenant United Reformed Church.
We move to Scenes 4-6 of Act 2 in our study of the book of Esther. This sermon is titled Esther Acts as Queen. God is still silent in the book, but here the historical characters realize that there is a greater king who triumphs over the King of Susa. Esther calls Mordacai and the Jews to fast as the Serpent King has segregated the sheep from the goats so that Satan can establish his glory Kingdom. However, the Lord will deliver His people through the Seed of the Woman.

Hamaan (Lineage of Agag) casts lots to pick the best time to exterminate the Jews. The date is picked and he meets with the Serpent King of Glory Ahasuerus. They agree to the plan, and there is a royal decree that is sent to all the people of the land. We wonder how the Sovereign God of heaven can overturn the Sovereign King of Persia. Indeed, the Sovereignty of God is at stake as it seems (notice seems) the serpent seed has triumphed over God.

The post Persian Law Affirms Agag (Esther 3:7-15) appeared first on Covenant United Reformed Church.
Yahweh continues forth with his holy war against the Serpent seed. We see Mordacai honoring one ruler (Ahahsuerus the great) while dishorning another ruler (Hamaan) in the lineage of Agag. The tension heightens as now the serpet seed carries out what the Egyptians tried to do: exterminate the enemy seed. This is not merely ethnic cleansing, but an attempt to build a city of glory on this earth rather than in heaven.

King Ahasuerus continues with the line of Lamech by choosing another queen. In this process we begin to see that the Silent King of Glory is at work in history using the weak things to shame the wise.
