Paul's letter to the Corinthians opens with this commendation: "To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours" (1 Cor. 1:2).

We are called to be saints together. This is the beauty of the church. Christianity is a faith that will not allow us to become private believers, who withdraw from the world to be more holy. Being connected to a local gathering of believers is absolutely necessary.

I have seen in every gathering of saints that the halos come off. This is the ugliness of the church. Our American culture fosters an individualism, a denial of truth and accountability. It is cool and fashionable to blame the church and to opt out. This is not your choice. We are called by Jesus. This call is to follow him and imitate him. A significant part of this call is to be saints together.

To encounter God is to have a personal experience. This personal experience is then transplanted into the local church. And the local church's testimony joins the chorus of the testimony in the worldwide church.

Come and be a part of God's work that is more than who you are!

The Psalmist describes the saving nature of God in Ps. 103:3-5: "who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."

In life we face all kinds of challenges and obstacles. Sometimes they are of our making, while at other times they are because of the evil world in which we live. We can even be attacked by demonic forces. How do we deal with these situations? Is each situation an opportunity to bless the Lord? How can we be a blessing even in trying circumstances?

I believe the answer lies in a life that is centered in God during normal times. This life becomes the default mode no matter what happens around us. We know a God who forgives, and we forgive. Our God heals, and we are healers. We too will be steadfast in our love and let the goodness of God be the energy that drives us.

Jesus is the Alpha and Omega. He is with us in all our beginnings and endings. Jesus gave of himself fully and did not hold back. "Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men" (Philippians 2:5-7). This longing to give of ourselves fully, without holding back, is God's image at work within us. The more we plan to give of ourselves to God, the more rest and contentment we will find.

2020 was the catch phrase for vision and plans. Now that 2020 is already here, do we set another vision for 2040? What is the number one priority in planning for the future? Giving more of my life to God and letting him have clear priority is the only security that guarantees my future. Why? Because He is the Alpha and Omega.

Isaiah 11:2b declares "They shall see the glory of the Lord, the majesty of our God." The glory and majesty of God transforms everyone and everything. He is not only Savior, He is also the Creator-Redeemer. The prophet declares that healing extends to all creation.

He heals the blind, the deaf, the mute as well as the wilderness and desert places.

Every time God manifests his glory there is transformation. This transformative experience is certainly evident in salvation from sin and death; what we forget is that the manifest presence of God also transforms creation. "For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands" (Isaiah 55:12).

Jesus comes to us as the Creator, the Savior and the Redeemer! Let us ask that the Glory of the Lord and his majesty will sweep through our nation!

Christmas always brings fresh hope. God is involved with us now, not just in the life to come. God is with us - Emmanuel. There is something about the story of God coming to us that captures our hearts. In Christmas I realize that God loves us and wants to be with us. This is a time to love and be loved. For almost 30 years Jesus did very little and just enjoyed living with us.

When we are among friends and loved ones, it is so much easier to laugh and rejoice and enjoy the gift of life. Joy is the fruit of strong healthy relationships. The coming of Jesus teaches us to make peace with one another and learn to live and enjoy each other. "The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them" (Isaiah 11:6).

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope (Romans 15:13)!

Advent is a time for expectation--expectation for the intervention and initiative of God. It is a time for God to create something new. In the beginning of creation God initiates a clear plan for creation. He speaks and everything comes into being. In advent we are celebrating how the New Testament begins with another initiative of God, when the Word becomes flesh and lives among us. We have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son.

The coming of Jesus is the way that light invades darkness. The coming of God is our only hope in any situation of darkness. Isaiah the prophet looks with longing into the future when he says, "let us walk in the light of the Lord" (Isaiah 2:5). Paul says in Romans 13:12, "let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light." We are called to live not just in hope but in the reality that heaven has invaded earth in the coming of Jesus. So live with a heavenly lifestyle.

Finally, in Matthew 26:44 we hear Jesus say: "Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect." Jesus is coming again, and this is what makes Christmas more than a celebration of the past. It is the future breaking into the present.

Let us wait and long for Jesus to return. Come Lord Jesus come soon!

What is your image of God as he looks at you? Is it an image of delight and deep love for you as his beloved son or daughter? God enjoys me. God enjoys you. Now that may sound like a surprising and bold statement, but God delights in us because he created us, and we are his children. We don't need any other reason for God to delight in us. It is in his nature to love.

The enemy and our own sin have robbed us of God's delight in us. We have been sold the lie that God is angry with us all the time. I have a love for my children and granddaughter that I cannot explain. It is just there, and it grows all the time. Nothing gives me more pleasure than when my children and their spouses come to our house, and when I see them enjoying and feeling completely relaxed and feeling at home. Everything I have is theirs. This is a small measure of how God enjoys us when we are at home with him. He has given us everything and not held back anything when he gave us Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

God delights in us!

Enjoy him forever!

From the time when Moses led the people out of bondage in Egypt, God has called us to be "a kingdom of priests and a holy nation" (Ex 19:6). It is clear from this verse that faith and worship are integral to the life of a nation. This is God's call. Without God's intervention and revelation, we wind up in slavery to other powers that dehumanize us.

Throughout Israelite history the priest, prophet and king were called to one purpose and that is to worship a Holy God and be a holy people. This is what qualifies us to enter into the promises of God and to enjoy the abundant life that he brings.

How have you made yourself ready to enter into the promises of God? Is there regular worship and ongoing obedience that recognizes the grace of God's revelation and intervention on your behalf?

God keeps his promises and is waiting for us to enter into them.

Every Christian is a witness to Jesus Christ, and every home is a church. This is one of our core

statements at Eternity Church. Worship on Sunday sets the pattern for life at home. We begin

with an invocation inviting and recognizing the presence of God in our midst. We worship with

songs of praise, thanksgiving and adoration. If only our homes were filled with a regular

invitation for God and with more song and praise!

At the heart of every service is the activation of the work of Jesus on the Cross. We confess and

receive forgiveness and find assurance and cleansing. This is what we are called to replicate -

the experience of worship in the church in to be transferred to our homes. In our common

relationships we name and recognize sin, seek forgiveness and healing. When Jesus first comes

into the home of Zacchaeus or Simon Peter, there is repentance and healing.

Families, which have learned to read scripture and share testimony and seek to understand and

obey the Word reflect what it means to be witnessing communities of faith. Is our dining table

an altar where in our normal conversation we suddenly discover the presence of Jesus?

Faith and life go together. The home and the Church are one. The only way our country will be

Christian is when our homes change.

Come Lord Jesus! Come into our homes!

Here is a common piece from the liturgy of many churches.

Celebrant: The Peace of the Lord be with you.

People: And, also with you.

At this point people greet, shake hands, introduce themselves to one another and declare the words of Christ to each other. What is the significance of this act in worship?

After the Resurrection, Jesus said to the disciples, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit" (John 20:21-22). Can you see the close connection between Peace and the Holy Spirit?

Sharing the peace is a sharing in the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Jesus. It is God who takes the Spirit that is upon you and shares it with those around you. This ensures that the whole church is filled with the Spirit and not just some. This is my vision for Eternity Church that everyone who comes and worships will know the power and presence of the Spirit upon them. We are not individual worshipers carried by the Spirit but a community that sets each other on fire.
