In this episode, Grant McHerron talks with the Reverend Doctor Nikki Coleman about ethics and the militarisation of space.

The discussion starts off with getting a background of Dr Coleman’s previous roles and experience as a chaplain, congregation minister and professor, as well as how their work calling out ADF’s problems surrounding sexual harassment, assault, and bullying resulted in winning the People and Culture category for the 2024 Women in Defence Awards. We then get a review of the scope of ethics in the military in relation to following orders and the application of force, with this in mind we consider the military ethics in space and concerns surrounding weaponisation, debris, and terrorism. The discussion goes on to explore the effectiveness of regulation and bans, why the general public should care about space ethics, and disputing the relativism of ethics and cultural subjectivity.

We wrap up this episode by considering the importance of applying ethics to our operations, regardless of other regimes or organisations.
