Easing volatility, which nonetheless remains higher than at the end of August, reflects a situation that is developing and hard to forecast on the markets. By contrast, the baseline still applies, with unchanged rates and dollar in line with its lows. Investors are still focusing on coronavirus cases and the measures put in place to contain them, as well as on political themes: US elections and Brexit back in the limelight.

The stock markets performed well in August, mostly driven by US equity. Low rates, a weakening dollar, and narrowing spreads draw a positive picture of the markets overall, with macro data also lending a hand.
