As part of the F.R.E.E. (HUM) ANIMAL event for 2018, Dr. Nathan Lents from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, spoke on the human/animal idea of empathy and reciprocity and the evolutionary value of morality.

The TMCC F.R.E.E. Committee chose the human/animal relationship as the topic for 2018. F.R.E.E. stands for Faculty for Radical Education and Enlightenment, and each year a new topic is chosen for interdisciplinary collaboration between areas of study such as math, education, anthropology, sociology, political science and art.

Dr. Doty talks about the childhood experience that led to his determination to become a neurosurgeon and author. Dr. Doty shares his insight on how we can change our lives by changing our brains and hearts through compassion and affirmation.

A spirited and synergistic atmosphere is created when Life Drawing students at TMCC get out of the classroom and in front of a classical string quartet. The String Beings serenade students who are drawing them while they perform.

The purpose of the TMCC Institutional Advisory Council is to ensure the linkage of the College to the community it serves and to anticipate future regional educational trends. The Council will meet at least quarterly to advise the College President, the Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges, the Chancellor, and the Board of Regents Standing Committee on Community Colleges on questions regarding operation of the College. The Council shall function and exercise the powers set forth by the Nevada Board of Regents.

Retired Humanities Professor Bill Baines, also a formerly commissioned Marine Corps Officer, carries on a long standing tradition at Truckee Meadows Community College by reading a message from the Commandant of the Marine Corps, in celebration of the Marine Corps birthday.
