My guest today is Marty Strong. Marty has been a leader and business consultant for decades, first in uniform as a combat-decorated Navy SEAL, and then in commercial business. Marty is the author of 2 fictional series, The time warrior sagas, and the SEAL strike series, before releasing his newest book, Be Nimble – How the Creative Navy SEAL Mindset Wins on the Battlefield and in Business.
I’ll be honest, I nerd out anytime I can talk to a former SEAL or any special operator. I find their experience, mindset, work ethic to be so inspiring. And Marty didn’t disappoint. We talked about the differences in people that do and don’t make it through seal training, what it takes to finish any mission, the specific mindset it takes to lead others and so much more.

Today's guest is Martin Rutte. Martin is a speaker, consultant, and president of “Livelihood”, a management consulting firm, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His newest book is Project Heaven on Earth: The 3 simple questions that will help you change the world … easily. Martin asks me these 3 simple questions and dive deep into how this mindset can impact your personal and professional life and give you purpose and direction in everything you do.
It’s easy to look at life’s tragedies and assume the worst. In just the last 2 years we've experienced 6,341,131 total Covid 19 deaths, 14,400 total deaths in the Russian Ukraine war and US Inflation is over 8.6%
But Martin is here to shift the paradigm from a dystopian point of view, to the realization that you can create your own personal heaven on earth, and contribute to a collective heaven on earth for all of humanity.

Quotes from Episode
“Going through SEAL training made me a much better person all the way around.”
“Just because someone is a really great military person, does not mean they are going to be a great entrepreneur.”
“If you are surprised that you are still wet and sandy, it means you shouldn’t be here.”
“I think that some people will realize that there is a path forward in business - you just have to find it.”
“Starting [Kill Cliff] was just an exercise in straight up TENACITY”
“Anytime you can weave a real, authentic purpose into building a business the better it is.”
“When everything sucks, having a purpose is very motivating.”
“If [employees] aren't clicking with the culture of the organization, they're probably not happy, and if they're not happy, it's time for them to go somewhere else.”
“It's very pragmatic, at the end of the day, whereas before I was trying to not be all things to all people, I was really trying to make everybody happy.”
“Trust is so critical. It’s kind of everything. You’re lost in business without it.”
“If you can identify suboptimal results early and what's causing them, or if you're on the wrong path, it prevents TOTAL failure”
“One thing that people often screw up is they don't realize the length of time it's going to take to sell somebody something.”
“I think there's this big tendency of start-up CEO's to do urgent things instead of important things.”
