Alan Johnson is the Owner & Trainer at Change Working and a Therapist & Coach at Alan Johnson Change Working.
Originally qualified as an RGN & RMN, Alan Johnson spent over 30 years working in the NHS and other public and third sector organisations, specialising in drug & alcohol services.
During this career, he was involved with commissioning services in the drug and alcohol and public health areas.
Alan’s own mental health problems in his early 20’s set him on a journey to find some effective approaches that would help build resilience to the issues going forward. NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) was the first thing that really spoke to him.
Now a trainer, coach and therapist, he is based in Northallerton, North Yorkshire and as well as practising he is qualified to train NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming), IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Therapy), Metaphors of Movement and OldPain2Go- a psychological approach for managing enduring pain, fatigue and emotional conditions.
Alan works with private clients and also for a veteran/ blue light services organisation- Rock2Recovery providing support for individuals and their family members around post-traumatic stress and anxiety.
Much of Alan’s work has been training these communication and leadership skills to people within the public sector, and he won the International NLP Award for work in Public Sector in 2017 for his work in the transformation of Durham Constabulary.
His special interests are in helping people to be happy and calm; equipping people to work to their best while also looking after their individual emotional and psychological needs.
Alan has a passion for training people who work with people, to get the best outcomes for their patient/ client group while understanding how they ‘tick’ themselves.
He Lives in Northallerton, North Yorkshire with his wife and business partner Jackie- who uses the same skills to work with children who have anxiety, eating disorders and other conditions.
Alan likes to cook, eat at good restaurants and he and Jackie are keen travellers. With 9 grandchildren they are also happy when around their family.
A keen quizzer, Alan has been on several TV gameshows, and more recently PopMaster on BBC Radio 2.
