Lindsay Gasik is one of the most knowledgeable people in the western world on the controversial durian fruit. She spends 99% of her time in the countries where durians grow. Following the durian season she guides tours, imports durian to the US and creates some of the best social media on durian you will ever see.  And she also happens to be from Southern Oregon!  I was thrilled to catch her doing instagram stories from a neighboring town one day. I immediately hit the DM's and set up a podcast.

In 2003 DARPA research scientist Sam Sheperd was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Chemotherapy and radiation were not even options.

He tasked his team with finding out which animals do not get cancer and why. They found that there were five animals that all shared a common molecule in their chemistry. Pink flamingos, sharks, salmon, elephants and the naked mole rat.

That molecule is astaxanthin, an extremely powerful antioxidant. 

After posting an insanely popular video about his story on TikTok and Instagram, the comment section was so dense I thought a podcast was the only logical next step. In this podcast we go deep into Sam’s background and the health challenge that led him to consume saltwater algae as a path to healing.

In this episode I head back to NYC and take a trip to my home borough of Staten Island to visit Dr. Fred Bisci. It was twenty six years ago that he started as my nutritionist, then became my mentor and has become one of my oldest friends and colleagues. We sat in that same office where so many years ago I learned about the beginning stages of the cleansing life and plant based nutrition. I'm not even sure this podcast, Vitality NYC or my career as a colonic therapist would even exist if I hadn't met him. Although there's so many new things to learn about health sciences from him I tend to drop into more personal conversation about his history and spiritual life. We brush on his early days when he briefly rubbed shoulders with the mafia and talk about some deep spiritual experiences he had while fasting. Eventually we got down to talking shop though. He has a very strong opinion about the keto diet and we ended with an epic Q&A from Instagram. Hope you love it! Thanks for spending time with us!
