When we hear about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the United States, we frequently view it through the lens of the news media, pro-Palestine and pro-Israel interest groups, politicians, and academia. What's missing is the people on the ground, who actually live in Israel and Palestine. Their voices, their stories, are rarely heard here in the United States. And sometimes, by listening to them we hear a different story about what's really happening on the ground.

In this third episode of Everyday Voices, we spoke with Mohammad Asideh, Programs Director for the Palestinian grassroots youth movement Zimam about working for peace at a time where the threat of annexation looms large.

The OneVoice Movement is a global initiative that supports grassroots activists in Israel, Palestine, and internationally who are working to build the human infrastructure needed to create the necessary conditions for a just and negotiated resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Zimam (“reins” or “taking the initiative” in Arabic) is a pioneering grassroots youth movement that challenges the status quo. Taking a domestic approach to conflict resolution, Zimam works with the leaders of tomorrow to build a more democratic, actively engaged and pluralistic society.
