Tracy Harding is a pediatric occupational therapist and has been working in a public school system outside the Boston area for the past twenty-five years. Working with children is her first love and her book was inspired by that passion, and by her abiding love for her mother, Joanne A. Harding. This is her debut children’s illustrated book.

Anna’s Big Wish is about how six-year-old Anna gets her biggest wish of all to visit her recently deceased grandmother, Nana.  Readers can travel with Anna as she gets to say goodbye to her grandmother on her own terms. This book can help children overcome their fears, worries, and concerns about the loss of loved family and friends.

Betsy Wurzel’s husband started having unusual memory issues, and was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease two years later at only 56. She lost him this in January after a 10-year decline.  Betsy has been an inspiring advocate to raise awareness and increase education to help others. In our last episode we talked about grief and mourning. This week we expand on the concept to discuss traumatic or complicated grief. Traumatic grief is grief and mourning over a death that came about in traumatic circumstances (e.g. sudden, suicide, murder). 

COVID-19 affected many in this way because loved ones often died suddenly and alone. This can leave family members with regret and emotional pain from "not being there" at their last moments.

We talk about how to identify complicated grief, and ways to help yourself cope with this type of death.

Is there a difference between grief and mourning?  Will I ever get over the death of a loved one?  In this podcast we talk about grief (the process of experiencing a loss) and mourning (the coping efforts related to the loss).  We also talk about how to help yourself through the process of mourning.

We have a special guest and new member to our Everyone Dies Team - Nancy Miller. Nancy is well acquainted with grief as she tells her story in our podcast. DNR means "Do Not Resuscitate." DNR orders are written instructions from a physician telling health care providers not to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).  We discuss the reasons someone may choose to have a DNR and some of the issues surrounding this important decision.
