After a totally non-sports episode, the random number generator demanded Steve do a sports-heavy episode. This week Steve talks about the bigger meaning of Villarreal winning the Europa League, high school teammates who became Major League Baseball players (as well as the White Sox rotation and the Jupiter Hammerheads game he attended), a children's picture book taking on a difficult topic (and a couple baseball biographies), Futurama and Shrill and the Florida Panthers playoff run. There's also a bit of dereliction of duty as every segment runs over 4 minutes (although none over 4:19); but don't worry, it's all over in less than 30 minutes. Enjoy (or don't) and keep everything 5x4.
This week the random number generator has Steve not talking about sports and instead discussing Iron Maiden, one Futurama episode and Shameless's shameful ending, the Avengers, Chicago's Urban Historian and "stanning." Enjoy (or don't) and keep everything 5x4.
On this special spin-off episode, Steve discusses baseball and soccer for 12 minutes apiece in one take. Enjoy (or don't) a whirlwind of the White Sox, Samsung Lions, Tony LaRussa, unwritten rules, Satchel Paige, the Jupiter Hammerheads, the Crew rebrand, cringe-worthy moments from broadcasters, Fulham's relegation and Villarreal and Florida State women's soccer's triumphs. As always, keep everything 5 x4 (even when it's 2 x12).
On this episode the randomness involves Steve discussing Hole's Live Through This, the milkshake duck trope, Shocktop and New Belgium's Fat Tire Amber Ale, the Florida Panthers in the playoffs and soccer clubs combatting racism and misogyny. As always, enjoy (or don't) and keep everything 5 x 4.
This week the random number generator has Steve waxing nostalgic discussing the end of Yahoo Answers and the days of early '00s internet (other misc. pop culture), the beauty of the Go-Gos' Beauty and the Beat nearing its 40th anniversary (music), the mess that is Star Trek: Nemesis (movies) as well the issue of Olympic Baseball qualifying (baseball) and the true "Superleague" alternative that is AFC Wimbledon (soccer). As always enjoy (or don't) and keep everything 5x4.
This week, the five randomly chosen topics are movies (revisiting Garden State), other misc. sports (college basketball transfers), shout-outs (various women in sports media), soccer (the eventful start to the Chicago Red Stars season and a quick summary of my clubs in Europe) and books (The Stand and its more cringeworthy aspects). Plus a segment on anti-trans legislation and what we can do about it, because human rights are bigger than politics. Enjoy (or don't) and keep everything 5x4.
On this episode, the random number generator compels Steve to talk about music (revisiting Fashawn's mixtape Champagne and Styrofoam Cups), baseball (rules changes and the White Sox season so far), soccer (an update on Himmarshee FC's birthday and the opening of the Chicago Red Stars' season), other misc. sports (the Florida Panthers excellent season thus far) and beer (Hangar 24's Betty West Coast IPA & Schloss Eggenberg's HopfenKonig Pilsner). As always, "Enjoy or don't" and Keep everything 5x4.
On this special spin-off episode, Steve talks unscripted about baseball (the White Sox, opening day overreactions, the DH, big contracts) and soccer (fan-ownership, Olympic-qualifying issues and a rapid fire summary of European clubs I follow) for 12 minutes apiece. Next week, the 5x4 format will be back. But for now, enjoy this episode... or don't.
On this episode, Steve spends 4 minutes apiece discussing baseball (Eloy Jimenez's injury and unhelpful hot takes about it- which is and of itself a hot take), soccer (Himmarshee FC and when "the beautiful game" gets ugly), beer (Beer of the month club beers including a schwarzbier, pale ale, helles hefe and oatmeal stout), books (biographies of Effa Manley, Buck O'Neill as well as the Baseball Prospectus Futures guide) and movies (revisiting the oft-forgotten Star Trek: Insurrection). Enjoy it (or don't) and keep everything 5x4.
Once again, Steve spends 4 minutes apiece on 5 topics. This week it's other misc. sports (University of Missouri & Florida State University Men's basketball: actually 4 minutes and 22 seconds), shout-outs (Chicago House AC and the rise of more diverse and inclusive soccer supporters' groups), other misc. pop culture (Epic Rap Battles of History), movies (revisiting Star Trek: First Contact 25 years after its release) and TV (skipping Futurama episodes this week and talking about the rise of miniseries based on books instead). Enjoy (or don't) and keep everything 5x4! (Feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]).
