Evolution Security Podcast

Sam Ferguson is a highly experienced Police officer with six years of service in Lexington, KY. He has been a combat sports enthusiast throughout his life, having trained in MMA, boxing, and Thai boxing.

While well-rounded in striking, he has made a name for himself as a skilled grappler. His journey began at 8 when he started wrestling, which he continues to coach at a high school level.

In addition to wrestling, Sam has also earned a blue belt in judo and a 1st-degree black belt in BJJ. Additionally, he has proven himself a top competitor, having medaled at No Gi Worlds as a purple, brown, and black belt.

As Sam shifted his focus to his career in law enforcement, his attention moved towards combatives and arrest tactics. As a patrol officer on the third shift, he earned a black belt in combatives.

He trained with renowned experts such as Paul Sharpe, Larry Lindeman, Craig Douglas, and Aaron Janetti. Thanks to his extensive combat sports background, he has been able to translate his knowledge and skills into practical and effective combatives training for his work as a police officer.

This show we have two extremely pivotal guest, Sarah Adams and Dave "Boon" Benton.  They are both survivors of the 2012 Benghazi, Libya attacks and are authors of the book, Benghazi Know Thy Enemy, A Cold Case Investigation.   Many will recall the book "13 Hrs in Benghazi" and the Benghazi attacks themselves.  Boon was one of the CIA GRS contractor whom went to the aid of Ambassador Chris Stevens and his staff at the Benghazi Consulate, and later defended the CIA Annex against al-Qa'ida terrorist.  Sarah was a CIA analyst and the on the ground targeter for the Benghazi CIA Annex.  Sarah was also a Senior Advisor to the US House of Representatives Select Committee on Benghazi.

Contrary to popular media accounts, these attacks were not the result of an anti-Islam YouTube video per the Obama administration, these attacks were planned by hardened al-Qa'ida terrorist, with the Consulate attack ordered by the leader of AQ Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri.

In these attacks we lost four patriotic Americans:  Ambassador Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone "Rone" Woods, and Glenn "Bub" Doherty.  This investigation is to help bring these terrorist to justice.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

This episode we have Chuck Haggard on for a long overdue 3rd time. We revisit the NPE Counter Robbery Class taught by Chuck, Cecil Burch, and Darryl Bolke.  Aaron attended this incredible class and we highly recommend you seek it out or contact them to host it in your town.  With Chuck's decades long LE career he has up-to-date and deep knowledge regarding the terrible shape police retention, recruitment, and Training is in. He offers important actionable intel on this.  And for fun, just a little gun gear talk.

Chuck's world class instruction can be found at https://agiletactical.com

This episode we have the Jerry Wetzel on the show.  This is long overdue!  Eric has been interfacing with Jerry for close to 20 years via online forums like Total Protection Interactive and social media.  He is a wealth of knowledge in weapons integration into the combat sports model yet completely from the context in the street environment.  Jerry is a preeminent expert in reductionist solutions for dealing with a knife in the real world.  Some of our most important mentors credit him with building a lot of what they do, Paul Sharp, Cliff Byerly and many more, yet Jerry humbly states that the exchange was mutual.

Just recently Eric finally was able to meet and train under Jerry at the Combatives Summit in Florida.  The material was outstanding, life saving information that is changing Eric's approach to knife defense.

This episode we welcome Dr. Sherman House as an EvoSec repeat offender.  Dr. House draws from a life of experience in many endeavors.  From multiple college degrees, trauma medicine, surgical dentistry to serious firearms training.  We covered the continued attacks on the Second Amendment in Washington state with the egregious H.B. 1240 signed into law this year.  For the time being, this means alternative firearms formats for self-protection.  So Dr. House has begun utilizing and promoting the appropriateness of the lever action rifle.

This episode John Hearne joins Aaron Davis to present a scientific based conversation on the pathologies of violent criminals.  From anti-social street criminals to the worst among us; psychopathic serial killers and rapists.  This is a fascinating conversation full of novel viewpoints and novel commentary on this extremely concerning universe of those we work daily to defend against.

December 28th 2023 7pm CST John will be giving his yearly online lecture on crime in the US (with on demand video available for 30 days following). Look for this event and many upcoming events for the remainder of 2023 and in 2024 at http://jhearne.eventbrite.com/

This throw back episode we go back to show 38:

This episode we have the preeminent expert of Self Defense Law - Andrew Branca on the show. Arguably the only attorney in the nation that focuses purely on self defense law giving him expertise that all of us should seek. Andrew is also the author of the book, The Law of Self Defense, which will educate you on the principles needed to keep you out of legal trouble. It can not be over emphasized, if you use lethal force you WILL go through some form of legal proceedings, even if it is "cut and dry."  As gun owners the majority of us do not focus on being prepared for the legal fight, this lack of education can certainly affect our lives drastically and can result in spending the rest of our lives in prison.  Also in this episode the crew discusses Legal Assistance memberships and their efficacy.  Lastly, in the accountability section Eric speaks on his recent experience in taking and graduating from the Rangemaster Instructor Development and Certification course.
