"Are Mormon Leaders Above the Law? Fraud in the Inducement and Mormonism: An Historic and Contemporary Look"-

Kay Burningham graduated J. Rueben Clark Law School in 1982, clerked in San Francisco and initially worked as an insurance defense attorney in Southern California. She was appointed as a volunteer Judge Pro Tem/Civil Settlement Officer for the San Diego Superior Court from 1990 through 1995. Kay returned to Utah in 2001 and has practiced civil litigation as a trial attorney since then in Park City, and more recently, Salt Lake City.

She has extensive jury trial experience and was lead counsel on Daniels v. Gamma West Brachytherapy 221 P.3d 456 (2009) a medical malpractice case involving excess therapeutic radiation given to a cancer patient. The unanimous Supreme Court opinion clarified Utah law with regard to gross negligence and punitive damages.

She is the mother of two sons: Chris, a resident of Santa Barbara, California and a student at UCSB in chemical engineering and nanotechnology, and Danny, who will be a freshman at ASU in the Barrett Honors program this fall, majoring in computer science engineering. In her spare time she likes rollerblading, water and snow skiing.

She has two Himalayan cats, brothers, age fourteen. Kay is the author of "An American Fraud: One Lawyer's Case against Mormonism".

Chris grew up in a conservative LDS home in British Columbia, Canada and had various spiritual experiences that lead him to going on a mission. He served diligently on his 2-year mission in Japan, in spite of his father's unexpected death.

Chris returned home, went to college and married in the Temple, later becoming the CEO of a software development company headquartered in Alberta.

After several debates with his older brother, he became more interested in truth, and so began conducting various experiments with that, an experience which eventually crushed his beliefs and woke him up about his religion.

Through this drastic change in perspective, Chris has become more passionate about truth, science and philosophy, and believes the future is brighter than ever.

After his retirement, he became active in the Recovery From Mormonism groups, and in 2001 incorporated the Exmormon Foundation.

"Exit Strategy: Leaving Mormonism with your Dignity and Integrity Intact"-

Micah McAllister was a lifelong Mormon until his departure from the church in 2008 at the age of 29. That same year he founded the social network for ex-Mormons, http://www.LifeAfterMormonism.net.

Micah's experience interacting with departing members there and on other forums provided insight into the transition process and pitfalls ex-Mormon face in navigating a now mixed-faith relation to family and friends, and some of the emotional and psychological challenges of leaving a fundamentalist religion.

Micah is also the only ex-Mormon in his large immediate family and has quickly learned how those relationships can turn south when not approached in a careful and thought-out manner.

After learning about notorious clergy-perpetrated sexual abuse scandals and high-profile "faith healing" child-death cases, the public has come to understand that faith communities are not immune to child abuse and neglect. But can religious belief itself contribute to child maltreatment? In her compelling talk, Janet Heimlich will discuss a dark side of faith -- religious child maltreatment. She will explain how this form of abuse and neglect damages the lives of young people, which children are at the greatest risk, and what we can do to ensure that a religious upbringing is a nurturing experience for every child.

Janet is an award-winning journalist and the author of Breaking Their Will: Shedding Light on Religious Child Maltreatment, which takes an in-depth look at child abuse and neglect in the United States that is enabled by religious belief. She is also president of the Child-Friendly Faith Project, a national nonprofit public charity that educates the public about the impact that religious, spiritual, and cultural beliefs and practices have on children. As a freelance reporter for National Public Radio, Ms. Heimlich won nine journalism awards, including the regional Katie and the Houston Press Club's "Radio Journalist of the Year." David Twede is a former managing editor and currently Editor at Large at MormonThink.com. He has degrees in physics and molecular biophysics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is published in science journals, novels, as a photography artist, and he holds patents in imaging science.

He was raised as a fifth generation Mormon, and resigned his membership in the Mormon Church in Oct 2012 after the LDS Church attempted to excommunicate him over his writings and editorial position at MormonThink.
