“Consciousness” is a word we often use in spiritual circles.  What does it mean?  And how does it relate to your spiritual growth?  Your consciousness is the total of your thoughts, feelings, beliefs and ideas.  It includes your conscious mind, but also includes  the subconscious and superconscious mind.  As you grow and seek to live a God-centered life, your total consciousness begins to shift.  You move from wanting and having to being and living.  You move from “not enough” to abundance thinking.  It is a complete shift - “in consciousness” , meaning, that your world view has shifted.  Working with this idea as you continue on the path of awakening will support the new way you are seeking to live from soul.

What are your guiding principles?  A principle could be described as a belief or philosophy.  Or, it might be called a theory or assumption.  It is important to be aware of those principles, as they consistently guide you.  Sometimes they guide you unconsciously and cause you to do and say things you don’t want to do.  Sometimes we “dress up” our principles and act one way in public and another in private.  There is negative self-talk and at times even self-hatred.  To truly heal, we want to consciously choose our principles and do our very best to live from them.  The healing is when we can see what is unconscious and bring it into the light of consciousness, love ourselves through it, and ask the harder question of, “What do I really believe in?”  And the joy when you connect with the higher principles of love, acceptance, and righteousness will support your life.

The spiritual journey has many twists and turns.  When you focus on your higher desires, you seek to live from purpose - your dreams, goals, desires, and intentions.  Well, the higher consciousness and getting there, is a work!  Dealing with negative thoughts, old ways of thinking and doing, residual self-image and worthiness issues are all a part of what has to be dealt with to move into the higher way of thinking and being.  Most people never attempt it, because honestly, it is hard.  But the souls ready to grow, prosper and evolve, feel downright driven to do this.  Working with your thoughts requires a desire to grow, a resilience of spirit, and a tenacity for life and the spiritual walk. Commitment is a necessary ingredient of any dream, goal, or desire.  Commitment is the fortitude, drive, and will to do something, even when you don’t want to.  This is a major task in our world today, to be bold enough first to get clear about a thing and then commit to it is a special thing.  So, are you clear on your direction and moving forward with commitment?  Or, are you wishing it will happen? A wish is simply a dream without commitment. Remember that to commit to something means I believe in it and I believe in myself enough to do this and keep doing this!

The birth of Christ is perhaps the most notable event in history.  It may be one of the most misunderstood as well.  The birth of Christ is a gift to humanity and the message is clear - GOD IS WITH US!  In the New Testament, it is also clear - this Christ presence is within us and always has been.  This is a radical idea to some.  But the Bible is clear.  Jesus Christ is here now. And that Christ lives in us.  He was born to comfort us and support us and bring us the salvation of the Christ.  And you are already it!  We celebrate the birth of the Christ every year to remember its importance and significance.  The deeper work is to embody and live this Christ essence in the world.

“Silence provides room to receive the voice of the Holy Spirit.” 

Times of Silence are necessary for you to grow and tap into a deeper connection with God.  You can’t do this if you are plugged in and with people constantly.  And with today’s pace, it is very easy never to stop and take time to be quiet and listen.  And it doesn’t have to be a fancy retreat or workshop about meditation, although those things are fine in and of themselves.  Silence can be had anywhere and for free!  Silence is like a retreat that you can have right where you are. Even at work or at home, silence can be yours.  Regular times of silence will guide you and give you strength for the journey.

The Law of Surrender is an act of extreme trust in the Divine.  It is about understanding and believing that the Divine is your friend.  It is moving into a state of nonresistance and to be in the essence of God.  Surrender is about being in your higher purpose and seeing things from the higher level of the soul.  The opposite of Surrender is resistance.  So having this knowledge will empower you to know when you surrender and live from the soul or, from the personality, which is full of resistance.  Studying and applying this law will help you live daily, from the level of the soul and come out of the personality and ego.
