In this episode, I recap what's been going on in the language training world I work in since the beginning of the Covid-19 quarantine period here in France. I'll share stories about what teachers of different levels of technology competency have been going through, and how we can use blended / flipped teaching techniques to dramatically improve the quality of our online classes.

In this episode, I've once again been inspired by Tamara Parson's ELT.Training Facebook Group "5 day back to school challenge" where she talked about none of her participants being comfortable sharing their worst ever lessons and what they learned from them. I have no shame, and so here we go, my top 3 worst ever lessons!

I've recently joined the fantastic professional development group run by Tamara Parsons of ELT.Training, you can join and get involved here.
One of the issues that language teachers seem to repeatedly bring up is lesson planning and timing, how to get it right and what approaches exist.
In this episode I'll talk about staying flexible, using TTT / PPP to hit your objectives, and some fundamental things you can do to improve your way of planning and executing your lessons.

This is the first episode of the second season of The Expert Language Trainer Podcast.
Why a second season? Gone are the days of directionless rants, that's Season 1 kind of stuff. Season 2 is going to be well-structured advice on how to practically improve your language training, particularly in the context of developing your own independent online training business.
In this episode, we'll look at the video below from Gary Vaynerchuk, legendary social media content marketer. He gives somebody advice on starting their own social media brand, and some of his points are priceless and thoughtful.
I wanted to give my own take on my key take-aways from what Gary said, applying his advice to the context of language training.
Let me know what you think in comments, and keep an eye out for a free group class starting soon on my online learning platform, LearnBook, where we'll get a proper training course going on how to succeed in online language training today.

Stephen Krashen is, in my opinion, one of the greatest linguistic theorists of our time. His work absolutely changed my perspective on what it is to learn and therefore teach a language. In fact, in pure Krashen theory, the teacher doesn't really teach the language at all. Your role is more of a guide and facilitator, making sure as many of the variables as possible are in place for effective language acquisition when the learner is exposed to the target language. In this podcast, I'll give my own take on Krashen's most important work - the five hypotheses of language acquisition, and how they had a positive impact on my teaching.

This is a quick interview conducted with Scott Benedict, plenary speaker at the TPRS conference in Agen, France, to give a very general explanation of TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling). You can find an online conference he's involved in here.
The TPRS conference was organised and run by Judith Logsdon-Dubois, whose website and blog can be found here with information about the conference and registration. I highly recommend checking it out for next year's conference.
For even more regular information about language acquisition and teaching methods in general, Scott and Judith recommended Bill Van Patten's podcast called Tea with BVP, check it out for tonnes of hot tips for language teachers.
If you're looking for materials to give TPRS a test drive, I met the lovely Nicole De Boer who helps run the Comprehensible Input Bookshop, a great source of books and materials for TPRS classes and beyond.
