Religious display as art has long been a contentious subject, and people's perspectives on it rely greatly on their cultural background, religious beliefs, and personal values. In this podcast, we talk about the highly controversial Ghent Altarpiece, also known as the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb. It has been the target of thefts, controversies, and a variety of ideas over the years. The theft of several of the panels by Nazi forces during World War II, which sparked a multidecade hunt for the missing pieces, is possibly the most well-known of these. Today in our group we discussed the Ghent Altarpiece. We discussed what the art piece is, where it is located, other facts about the piece, whether religious art is okay to be displayed, and if the Berlin museum mistreated the altarpiece.

Our case study is 5.11 which talks about an artist that clothed a nude sculpture to avoid vandalism. The decision by the artist Joe Brown ended up being a very controversial one. This is an extremely interesting case study so make sure to pay attention and listen until the end!

However, this expensive and unique piece happens to be a stolen and illegally imported from the Mayan Culture.
