In this episode of our podcast, we will discuss the representation of the Apostles on the “Act of Apostles” tapestry by the famous Italian artist Raphael, according to Reynolds's following statement. "In all of the pictures in which Raphael has represented the apostles, he has drawn them with great nobleness; he has given them as much dignity as the human figure is capable of receiving; yet we are expressly told in scripture they had no such respectable appearance; and of Saint Paul, in particular, we are told by himself, that his bodily presence was mean." Raphael represented St. Paul as noble and with such dignity, but the history behind St. Paul is not as noble as Raphael wanted to show us. Why did Raphael that? What did Raphael intend to express?
