EP 37 EXPOSED! The Warnings Doctor - Dr. Gerry Goldhaber -Hair-Raising Data About the Link Between Hair Straighteners & Cancer

Frequent use of hair straighteners may pose an increased risk of cancer, especially among Black women.  A recent study found that women who reported regular use of hair straightening products were more than twice as likely to develop uterine cancer than women who did not.  Scientists are uncovering new details about the connection between using hair straightening products, such as chemical relaxers and pressing products, and an increased risk of cancer in women.  Researchers at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) reported an increased risk of hormone-related cancers in people who use hair straightening chemicals, which are often Black women.  As a result, Black women may be disproportionately affected.  If consumers had known all those years ago from a warning on the box to say this product could cause cancer, they likely wouldn't have used it.  Women have filed federal lawsuits against companies who manufacture these products, alleging that chemicals in the companies’ hair products caused them to develop uterine cancer or other severe health effects.  The women in the suit said they were unaware that the use of chemical hair straighteners had put them at an increased risk of cancer until the release of the NIH study.  There was never anything on the products' packaging, their lawsuits allege, indicating that normal use of the products could cause them to develop uterine fibroids or breast or uterine cancer.  Manufacturers and corporations often do not have our best interests at heart.  I write about why companies cannot be trusted for disclosing hidden hazards and potential dangers in my bestselling book, Murder, Inc.  And remember, the more informed you are, the safer you'll be!

EP 36 EXPOSED! The Warnings Doctor - Dr. Gerry Goldhaber - Gas Stoves Could Be Leaking Toxic Chemicals

Your stove is off and the burner is off but it could be leaking small amounts of gas.  It's odorless and colorless, but now researchers believe if you cook with natural gas it could be hazardous to your health since natural gas stoves and ovens could be leaking toxic chemicals into the air.  Gas stoves and ovens can leak harmful chemicals inside homes even when they're not in use, mounting evidence shows.  About 47 million U.S. households use such appliances, according to the federal Energy Information Administration.  A recent study published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology found at least 12 hazardous air pollutants emitted from gas stoves in California, including benzene — a chemical known to cause cancer in some people.  The researchers behind the study — a group from the nonprofit energy research institute PSE Healthy Energy — took gas samples from 159 residential stoves in 16 counties throughout California.  They found benzene in 99% of the samples.  This episode of EXPOSED! explores the research to help keep you and your loved ones safe, offering helpful analysis and solutions.  Get your copy of my book murderincbook.com for more details about safety and chemicals.  And remember, the more informed you are, the safer you'll be!
