Hand sanitizer and Fitbit may not be so healthy and safe after all. This is the tale of two products whose safety, health, and efficacy is reviewed with a fine-tooth comb. Benzene and methanol, which are known carcinogens, were recently found in sanitizer formulas branded with the Mandalorian and Mickey Mouse. Meanwhile, Fitbit announced it is recalling smartwatches worldwide because the lithium-ion battery in the device can overheat, posing a burn hazard to consumers. With over 44 years of experience testifying and consulting to government agencies, Fortune 500 companies, insurance companies, and the legal profession, The Warnings Doctor is the expert to share insight and expertise about the recent health warnings, recalls, and lawsuits surrounding hand sanitizers and Fitbit. When the pandemic hit last year, restaurants closed, manufacturers raced to implement new protective measures and grocery stores struggled to keep their shelves stocked. A significant shift has occurred in the national food safety system that affects the safety, quality and number of food-related recalls. Interestingly, food recalls have decreased during the pandemic but experts aren’t sure which of a variety of possible factors is behind the drop in numbers. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced government regulators, consumers and manufacturers - the Safety Triad - to operate in one of the most turbulent and uncertain times in modern history. The pandemic upended food supplies and the entire food industry. We need to study the statistics with a clear vision to understand whether fewer food recalls equates to safer products. The critical question is whether pandemic disruptions allowed potential risks to slip through the cracks. This episode of EXPOSED! examines food safety and government product recalls. The reason I put all this safety information out there is because I want to remind you that the more informed you are, the safer you'll be!
Should you gather for the holidays with the omicron and delta variants circulating? There's concern but not panic. The omicron variant of the coronavirus is moving faster than surveillance systems can track it and has unnerved some medical experts but three doses of the mRNA vaccine seem to hold up in preventing serious illness and death. How should we prepare for the holiday season? What risks are we willing to take? As The Warnings Doctor, I recommend doing a risk/benefit calculation and ask yourself, Do the benefits outweigh the risks? That is the type of analysis I perform as an expert witness during the course of litigation as well as in my own life. This podcast is chock-full of safety tips and real-world examples to help keep you and your loved ones safe. Wear proven and scientifically tested masks correctly. Social distance when needed. Get vaccinated.

Seeing the joy on the faces of the children you love is one of the holiday season’s highlights. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urges gift-givers to keep safety in mind when choosing toys for young children. Following these safety tips when shopping can help ensure that the holidays stay safe and happy. Some toys may seem harmless but every year hundreds of thousands of children are injured by their favorite toys. Parents, caregivers, and gift-givers should be diligent about inspecting child’s toys and adhere to all age suggestions listed on the packaging. As a safety label and litigation warnings expert, I am regularly retained in an expert witness capacity to review warning labels and unsafe products that cause injuries to children. In this podcast, I give an insider's view of toy safety and provide specific recommendations stemming from the CPSC report. By always reading labels and being safety conscious, we can help prevent toy-related injuries. Dozens of safety tips are included in this episode of EXPOSED! Make safety a top priority this (and every) holiday season. For more information, visit https://www.goldhaber.com/it-s-toy-safety-awareness-month. Magic cure for Covid-19? WARNING! As described in the previous episode of EXPOSED!, Ivermectin does not treat or cure Covid-19. And yet, thousands of our fellow Americans, acting on the advice of right-wing media and politicians, are exposing themselves to illness and death. The Ivermectin "boom" is the product of misinformation in the media - both traditional news media and social media - as some Americans now see a deworming medicine as a go-to drug to prevent and fight the Delta variant. For example, the alleged wonder pills have been hyped on programs including Tucker Carlson Tonight, The Joe Rogan Experience, and promoted on Facebook through advertisements. Ivermectin is NOT effective against the coronavirus. The largest and most reputable clinical trial to date found the drug offered no clinical benefit whatsoever. The rationale for vaccinations is simple — to keep Americans safe — and the truth is this: everyone is safer when everyone is vaccinated, and vaccines work. And remember, the more informed you are, the safer you'll be!
Misinformation is lethal. As The Warnings Doctor, I’m concerned about the internet running wild with so-called Covid cures like the antiparasitic drug, ivermectin. Using ivermectin to treat or prevent Covid-19 is up there with swallowing bleach. It does not work and it can cause serious harm. The FDA said it received multiple reports of patients hospitalized after taking ivermectin, a drug commonly used in horses, to treat or prevent COVID-19. “You are not a horse,” the FDA tweeted. “You are not a cow. Seriously, y’all. Stop it.” Consult your healthcare provider and not Facebook or TikTok when determining what’s best for your health and the health of your family. The FDA has not authorized or approved ivermectin for use in preventing or treating COVID-19 in humans or animals. The most effective ways to limit the spread of COVID-19 include getting a COVID-19 vaccine and following current CDC guidance. Instead of listening to conspiracies online, please follow the data. (More on this point about misinformation, medicine, and the media in the next episode of EXPOSED!) Getting vaccinated can help protect you against this deadly virus. And remember, the more informed you are, the safer you'll be!
