In this first installment of a two-part episode of Extinction Rebellion Radio, Matthew Kearny and Alycee Lane discuss the empty promises of COP 26. Governments from around the world gathered in Glasgow to perform a ritual of talking about climate change while doing absolutely nothing to halt our unfolding climate crisis. As the world faces increasing climate catastrophes that displace millions, threaten our food supply, and compromise our health, leaders gathered not to phase out, but to phase down subsidies for oil and gas - an unapologetic prescription for extinction.

What if our longest war - the global war on terror that began in 2001- was a climate change disaster? This question we explore with the help of Professor Neta Crawford, Chair of Political Science at Boston University, and Co-Director of the Costs of War Project at Brown and Boston Universities. Through her research of military emissions, Professor Crawford found that throughout our “longest war,” the US military emitted over 1.2 billion metric tons of greenhouse gases, giving a whole new meaning to the anti-war chant, “No Blood for Oil!”
