  • Episode 21: How Hurry Hurts Us

Today we are going to talk about some of the highlights from a book that Brooke shared with me a couple of years ago. The content of this book smacked me in the face in all the best ways and is called, The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer. The first words of this book are from the Gospel of Matthew in chapter 11 verses 28-30 when Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Every time I read these words, I feel a sense of comfort and find myself breathing more deeply. - Brian Marston F4 Host

  • Episode 20 Ryan's Story

This month we did something we don't do very often, we interviewed one person. Ryan was a great guest and we think this is going to impact many of you in such a positive way. Why Ryan? Well, Brian has known Ryan for more than 17 years and he just celebrated his 33rd birthday! We invited Ryan to be our guest because he is a good friend and has a powerful story that we know will be encouraging to many of you. For this episode we asked him to share some of his story and then talk about a subject that we have been hearing a lot about over the last few years: mental health. This was so fun to do and we look forward to feedback from you if you find it helpful in any way at all. Thanks again for being a great guest, Ryan!

F4 represents Faith, Family, Friends, and Fitness. While we have some exciting new fitness related podcasts planned and coming shortly, we have been a little more family focused on the last couple of podcasts and this one is going to continue that as well. I think we have all been surprised by things happening around us as well as in us, as it relates to where we see needs with our community, world, and the family. We hope this episode helps you relate in a way that impacts your marriage, family and children’s lives as well as your community’s future.

Buckle up for an emotional rollercoaster of an episode. We have posted links below to Dr. Jim Burns book, Doing Life With Your Adult Children. We hope this helps you work through this process!

  • Episode 18: “Something to Talk About” (aka the ding-dong episode)

Welcome to Episode 18: “Something to Talk About” (aka the ding-dong episode)

APOLOGY UP FRONT! We had a catastrophic fatal loss of the audio file while in editing. This means the audio quality is not what you are used to hearing. Normally we wouldn’t post this because of that, but we liked this episode enough to post anyway. Our apologies and we promise it won’t happen again!

Last time, we dedicated our time to discussing what makes a marriage great. I thought we had excellent conversation around this idea. One of the things we mentioned that we find helpful to keep connection in marriage is having a regular date night. Sometimes knowing what to do or what to talk about can be a challenge, especially when you don’t want to always talk about kids or work. So, a couple of weeks ago, Charles and Vanessa stumbled upon these cards on a date night, and it led to some great conversation!

So, we ordered these to always have and today, we are going to just dig into these questions. This will be completely different from previous podcasts because we are literally drawing questions from a box and answering whatever we get. This hopefully gives you some inspiration on questions you can ask those who mean the most to you.

    • This episode is a byproduct of something that Brian has been processing often…marriage. Brian has a heart for reaching others to help them have a better connection with Jesus, their family, and the community. He has been married to Brooke for 24 years next month, and the Holy Spirit has been convicting him to love Brooke better but also to help others do the same with their spouses. Charles and Vanessa have been married for 23 years and are also looking to be connected more to each other, God, and the community and want to help others do the same.

  • Episode 16 Favorites!

I think we would all agree that asking people about their favorite things is a great way to get to know them and what makes them tick. Taking people’s favorites into account is also often a great way to keep meetings and gatherings and vacations and such running smoothly. After all, deeming something as a “favorite” is just another way of identifying your personal preferences. Hang with us this month to see if this is indeed the way to process favorites in your life!

  • Episode 15 Cancelled!

Are you an adult? Do you act like an adult? Do you talk like an adult? Or do you act and function at a lower age emotionally than what you are?

The idea of “cancelling” someone (or at least walking away from someone) that you feel has wronged you in some way has become more and more prevalent in our culture over the course of our lifetime. You see this with people all the time now “cancelling” celebrities, artists, authors, pastors, churches, local businesses, friends, family, etc. We are going to cover that today, but we are also going to focus on the individual cancelling. Like walking away from a friend because they hurt you somehow or they share a different belief system than you. This one may get hard and some of you might cancel us based on what we say today. I sure hope not!

Thank you for taking the time to engage with us on the F4 podcast! Please follow us on social media, like and share the podcast if you think this can be helpful and/or entertaining to other people. We would love your specific feedback so we can grow and continue providing content that is helpful to you. Thanks again for listening and we look forward to being with you soon again here on the F4 podcast!

  • Episode 13 "Word."

We’ve talked about goals and habits before. We’ve also talked about growth. This time of year, people generally begin thinking about these sorts of things. “New year, new you” and all. In this episode we tackle what it means to have a word or phrase for the year. We look forward to your feedback! You can email us at [email protected] or send us a DM on social platforms.

  • Episode 12 "Talent Show"

Today we are going to be talking about talent versus skill. In previous episodes we’ve discussed the concepts of growth and setting goals and how things like mindset factor into both of those things. But today we want to strip the topic down and address a basic question: is it talent or is it skill? When we work towards growth, are we developing skill or honing raw talent?
