Nouns are the names given to persons, places, animals and things. There are so many people around us. All of them have names.
Man, girl, teacher, doctor are names of persons.
City, classroom, hospital, park are names of places.
Elephant, cow, tiger, dog are names of animals.
Mat, book, table, cap are names of things.
1. Proper noun- The special name given to any person, place, animal, or thing is a proper noun. Proper nouns always begin with a capital letter.
Ex. Rahul, Priya, Delhi, Mumbai, Tommy, Fluffy etc.
2. Common nouns- Ordinary names of persons, places, animals and things are called common nouns. Ex. Dog, man, house, bus etc.
3. Collective nouns-Names given to groups of persons, animals, and things form collective nouns.
Ex. An army of soldiers, A crowd of people, A choir of singers etc. Here army, crowd and choir are the words used for a group of people.
A pride of lions, A troop of monkeys and A swarm of bees etc.
Here pride, troop and swarm are used for a group of animals.
A bunch of keys, A bowl of rice, A bouquet etc. Here bunch, bowl and bouquet are used for a group of things.
