Face to Face with Burnout.

Listen Later

Burnout can be incredibly difficult to face because it often shows up in the middle of things we care deeply about. It's not always a lack of motivation or passion—in fact, sometimes it's the opposite. You love your friends, your commitments, your work, your hobbies, and the life you've built, so slowing down feels wrong. You don't want to cancel plans, disappoint people, or admit that you simply don't have the capacity you once had. When you're used to being dependable, saying "I need a break" can feel like letting everyone down, even when it's exactly what you need.

What makes burnout even harder is the desire to do it all. We convince ourselves that if we just push a little harder, stay up a little later, or keep saying yes for a little longer, we'll eventually catch up. But burnout has a way of forcing us to acknowledge our limits. It reminds us that we are human, not machines. Coming face to face with burnout means accepting that rest is not a reward for finishing everything on your to-do list—it's a necessity. And while stepping back can feel uncomfortable, it's often the very thing that allows us to show up more fully for the people and responsibilities we care about in the long run.
