“It was a lot of discrimination, especially early in my career because I was trying to start a career while also having a new baby.” 

This Fair Tale is about how Kathryn responded to pregnancy discrimination experience and forge her own path. Gzhala Khan, is half Pakistan, half Scottish and Deputy Director of WSREC (West of Scotland Regional Equality Council), a 50th years old organisation championing equalities.

This Fair Tale is about Gzhala day-to-day role working with people from minority ethnics communities who face direct and indirect discrimination in the workplace.

She gives examples of all the psychology behind misconceptions and stereotypes and how to change unconscious bias on how people perceive diversity in the workplace. 

It is very important to discuss and acknowledge these unconscious bias.

This new episode feels special to me as Phoena is the woman who inspired me to create this podcast. Throughout our conversation we discussed diversity and inclusion in the workplace and Phoena spoke about her journey from as she mentioned “the desert" to the creation of her organisation Radiant and Brighter that tackles issues of inequality, racism in the workplace. 

A guy at the pub one night was almost defending rapists while chatting in a group and no one did say anything, excepted Angela. 

In this episode, Angela shares her career and life path. Through her journey for becoming a successful business owner she has seen the advantages as well as the disadvantages in the workplace. She heard awful words from this guy that night at the pub and didn’t want to stay quiet: she spoke up. She’s a great example of courage and sets the example of building a better workplace for equality. 

Today I'm very excited to try something different in welcoming two voices on this episode. Ines and Sahina have been friends forever and together we discussed mainly about the sexism they have faced in work experiences in gym, building and retail sectors. But we also discussed about how racist and egocentric individuals can be and why we should not be afraid to stand up for ourselves in the workplace.

Sue has worked in the hospitality industry and currently work in the whisky industry. She has travelled a lot and experienced discrimination and she speaks about the fact that she was prepared to face these challenges. She met some people who have admitted that they were discriminating her but still kept inappropriate behaviours. We also discussed about the difficulty to change the mindset on an individual scale.
