In our country today lawsuits have become commonplace. Lawsuits with merit, frivolous ones and just plain weird ones. But they’re no fun if they happen to you. Today on Money Wise, Steve and Rob review some frivolous lawsuits in our country that have happened in the past couple years. Then, they take a look at what the Bible has to say about lawsuits and suing another Christian.
The Bible says in very clear terms that we shouldn’t sue another believer in Christ
1 Corinthians 6:1-7 starts out by saying, Does any of you when he has a case against his neighbor, dare to go to law before the unrighteous and not before God’s people
One of the reasons the Lord is so strong in his command not to sue another Christian is that lawsuits are adversarial, They arrive at a legal conclusion, but leave unforgiveness and damaged relationships
The Bible doesn’t forbid suing non-Christians, but that doesn’t mean we should automatically do it.
Luke 6:29-31 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.
If you’re struggling with the right decision seek godly counsel. Visit with a pastor or friend. Ask the Lord for wisdom James 1:5, If any of you lack wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
We should also be quick to forgive. Forgiveness is one of the most powerful tools to witness b/c it is so foreign in our culture today. Colossians 3:13 reminds us to, Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
In today’s show we also answer your questions:
My husband and I were in ministry for a while and weren’t able to save a lot during that time. What is the best way for us to pay off the remainder of our mortgage? We have about 1K extra each month.
I am in my 70s. I recently took out a whole life insurance policy to pay for funeral expenses. Was this a wise idea?
My husband and I have been married 10 years. I have never known his income, but he has known mine. How can I break through this barrier so we can come up with a logical budget?
What is the best way to start a budget and start saving for my family?
