“Church A-B-C’s” is a year-long theme for our life together at Faith Lutheran Church. It is dedicated to understanding God’s calling upon His holy people—what it means to be a vibrant, mission-driven body of faith. We believe that God has called us to know Him and to make Him known to others in the world. We get to know Christ through His Word, shared in the church (the “temple”) in worship and Bible study. We get to know Christ through His Word shared around our dinner tables, with family, friends, and neighbors. We make Him known through our lives of service.
The day of our Lord’s resurrection is arguably the most consequential day in the history of the world. Having paid the price for our sins on the cross, Jesus rose triumphant, defeating the lasting sting of death for all who believe. His resurrection, the apostle Paul says, is the firstfruits (1 Cor. 15), which means many more will also rise. Jesus Himself promised those who believe in Him: “I will raise [you] up at the last day” (John 6:39-40). Because Jesus lives, we have assurance of an eternal, resurrected life with Him.
The apostle John also reminds us: “We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Because God has demonstrated His love for us in sending His only Son to die for us, we too show love and grace —this is what children of God do—we imitate and become Christ-like. Our Easter series, “Because He Lives …and Loves,” explores the positive consequences of God’s love and Christ’s resurrection. The series is based on a letter written by the apostle John, known as “First John” in the New Testament.
