Earthly comforts—food, warmth, home, rest, familiar surroundings—may soothe us temporarily, but kingdom comfort strengthens us to remain faithful to Jesus in the middle of hardship. God does not always remove the trouble; often He comforts us by giving us truth, people, perspective, courage, and hope so we can stand in it. Using 1 Thessalonians, the message shows how remarkable the work of grace is experienced and expressed among the church at Thessalonica. Paul had only a short time with them before persecution forced him away, yet they flourished because the gospel had genuinely transformed them. They learned quickly that following Christ would include affliction, but they also possessed the great hope woven through the entire letter: Jesus came, Jesus saved them, and Jesus is coming again. The message highlights seven expressions of kingdom comfort: 1. Tender and tough instruction — 1 Thessalonians 2:7–12. Paul ministered like both a nursing mother and a faithful father.
