The Book of Joshua chronicles the conquest of Canaan, the promised land, and its allotment among the tribes. The Book of Judges describes the settlement of the land during the approximate 300+ years from 1400 BC to 1060 BC. During this period there were 12 judges in Israel, Othniel, Ehud, Shamgar, Deborah, Gideon, Tola, Jair, Jephthah, Ibzan, Elon, Abdon and Samson. A Biblical judge was was used by God as a ruler, a military leader, and someone who presided over legal hearings. Judges pointed the people to Christ, our Savior. After on overview of the book, verses in chapter 1 and part of chapter 2 are discussed.
