Pages 150 to 158 of the book are covered. Why do Lutherans say death is purgatory? What does this mean. Nobody is hoping to merit hell, but this is the natural consequence. This along with other interesting and thoughtful subjects are in this session.

By free choice we mean that a man either turn to salvation or turn away from God. In truth, free choice belongs to God alone. God is sovereign and man nor angel is free to do whatever. If man is free, why can't he opt out of death or sin? Whatever the person does is bound to them. We can't escape from our own desires. "My will be done" is sin, "Thy will be done" is salvation. The will is bound to what it sees and understands. Without the Holy Spirit, man is ignorant and lives by rejecting truth. This is a sample of the discussion this week from pages 100 to 111 of the book.

Pages 90-97 of the book are covered. Erasmus claimed that Scriptures are obscure and need the Pope in Rome to interpret. Luther argued that the Scriptures themselves testify to their truth. All Scripture should be tested by Scripture itself. The Scriptures are not obscure and are Light. All else is Darkness. The Word of God always causes us to keep reforming. We discuss systematic theology, commentaries on Scripture and the Book of Concord in this context.

A sample of the discussion: We call anyone a Saint who is baptized. We, with love, look on another and say "I am willing to be deceived --- I will not judge them." Love assumes the best! In contrast, faith says no one is a Christian unless God says they are. Faith grasps hold of God's Word. Faith is much more cautious than love. Never believe a pastor unless he speaks God's Word. Faith's nature is not to be deceived.

Pages 70 to 82 of the book are covered. If we preach "Christ crucified" all the doctrine of the pastoral office and the sacraments come with it. Trust God on things above, but all the rest of things in life your are free to choose. God assures us He is with us and will work good out of those things that come into our lives. God will bless you in both the good and bad things that happen. We don't "do theology" by democracy (i.e. measuring the number of books written in favor of free will vs. against free will of man. This is a sampling of the discussion in this session.
