Instead of acknowledging God's hand in his prosperity, the man planned to build bigger barns to store his surplus, consulting only himself and thus illustrating the dangers of self-reliance and isolation. This parable serves as a caution against the self-centered mindset that prioritizes material wealth over spiritual richness towards God. We are reminded that our lives are not our own and that our true worth is found in being rich towards God, not in hoarding earthly treasures. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. As we reflect on the Gospel of Matthew, where Jesus performs miracles of healing and raising from the dead, we are reminded of the profound identity and role of women in God's creation. A woman, scripturally, is defined as a helpmate, created from man for a divine purpose, mirroring the relationship between Christ and the Church. Women are called to be partners, mothers, and bearers of life, reflecting God's image and plan through their unique roles. Brothers and sisters, we are called to follow two distinct paths in life: the path of life and the path of destruction, as Apostle Paul teaches us. He presents two ways of walking--either as examples of faith, imitating those who walk in the light of Christ, or as enemies of the cross, marked by destruction, self-indulgence, shame, and earthly concerns. We remember and honor those who have faithfully walked the path of life, such as Paul and the saints who now rest from their labors. Their lives inspire us to imitate their faithfulness amidst a world often hostile to our values. Conversely, the enemies of the cross live in pursuit of immediate gratification, glorifying what should be shameful and setting their minds on earthly things, leading to their ultimate destruction. As Christians, we are called to set our sights on heavenly things, not to be swayed by the transient desires of the flesh. Our true citizenship is in heaven, and through baptism, we are marked as God's own, called to live out our earthly lives with our eyes fixed on the eternal promise of salvation through Jesus Christ, who will one day transform our lowly bodies to be like His glorious body.

For the lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd. Our Lord Jesus, after his own death and resurrection, ascended into heaven and is enthroned with the Father and the Holy Spirit. This ascension marks a significant change; He now reigns as both true God and true man. The book of Revelation, an unveiling by John, shows us this reality where Christ reigns supreme, alleviating our fears and putting geopolitical turmoil into context. In heaven, Christ is not only enthroned but also worshipped by a multitude of saints and angels, all proclaiming salvation through God and His Son. This heavenly scene is mirrored in our worship on earth, emphasizing reverence, awe, and the use of elements like chanting and incense that reflect the heavenly liturgy. Central to our worship, and to heaven itself, is Jesus--the lamb who shepherds his people by bearing our sins. Our worship is thus a participation in the ongoing heavenly liturgy, where Jesus, the shepherd and bishop of our souls, serves us, inviting us into a deep, transformative communion with Him. This divine service is where we encounter the living Christ, who comforts and guides us, conforming us to His image and preparing us for the ultimate beatific vision of God, which is the essence of our created purpose and the heart of heavenly paradise.

From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force. John the Baptist, imprisoned and later beheaded, exemplifies the violence endured by those proclaiming the kingdom's nearness. This violence traces back to the serpent in Eden, who, knowing the prophecy that the woman's seed would crush his head, aimed to destroy this seed through various temptations and attacks, from Abraham and Sarah to David and the prophets. Despite these assaults, the promised Messiah came, embodying the kingdom and ultimately facing death on a cross. Yet, this apparent defeat was his victory, a coronation through suffering, culminating in his resurrection and ascension, asserting his reign despite ongoing assaults from a defeated Satan. As Christians, we are called to a steadfast confession of faith, exemplified by martyrs like Polycarp and Perpetua, and reformers like Martin Luther, who stood firm against corruption for the truth of salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone. This history of faithful resistance assures us that despite the kingdom's suffering, victory is secured, and we are to boldly proclaim this completed work, standing firm in our heavenly citizenship and gathering strength from our weekly refuge in church, where Christ nourishes us for the ongoing spiritual battle.

Come, everyone who thirsts, to a feast unlike any other, where the gracious gifts of God flow freely without the constraints of money or greed. Take heart, my son, your sins are forgiven. In our scripture today, we encounter a paralytic man brought to Jesus, expecting physical healing. Yet, Jesus first addresses the man's deeper need--his spiritual ailment--by forgiving his sins. This moment teaches us that our most pressing need, regardless of our physical or material conditions, is the forgiveness of our sins. It's a profound reminder that our relationship with God and the state of our soul should be our priority. Jesus, recognizing this, offers forgiveness, which is the ultimate gift, surpassing even the miraculous healing of our bodies. Jesus loves you uniquely, having created, redeemed, and renewed you through His Holy Spirit. If you feel distant from His love, it is time to draw near again, embracing the truth that you are baptized, a daily reality reflecting an irrevocable gift. In our Gospel reading, Jesus masterfully answers the Pharisees' challenge about the greatest commandment, affirming that it is to love God with all your heart, mind, and soul, and to love your neighbor as yourself. These commandments, which we often fail to uphold, are perfectly fulfilled by Christ, especially demonstrated on the cross where His cries to God and prayers for us epitomize perfect love. This love underpins all Scripture, which is written that you may believe in Jesus, the Christ, and have life in His name. Jesus, both David's son and Lord, embodies the fulfillment of the law and the prophets, inviting us to love Him and, by extension, love both God and neighbor. This profound yet simple truth is encapsulated in the assurance that Jesus loves us, as the Bible so clearly states.

And Jesus responded to the lawyers and the Pharisees saying, is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not? It was on this particular Sabbath that our Lord was invited to dine at the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees. This was not an invitation for hospitality's sake, but a trap set for our Lord. They invite Jesus to this house and a man with dropsy appears, the bait for the trap. Jesus, seeing through their scheme, heals the man and challenges the Pharisees' hypocrisy by asking if they would not save their own son or ox on the Sabbath. He exposes their misuse of the law, which they wield not as a guide but as a pedestal to elevate themselves. Jesus then addresses their pride with a parable about choosing the lowest place at a wedding feast, illustrating how the kingdom of God contrasts with worldly ways. He teaches that those who humble themselves will be exalted, inviting us to approach God with honesty about our sins, assured that in His mercy, He invites us to a higher place, offering forgiveness and eternal peace.
