As we navigate the challenges and tribulations of this world, it is only in Christ that we can truly find peace. This peace is not merely an absence of conflict, but a deep, abiding peace that comes from knowing Jesus has overcome the world. Through His words in John chapters 14, 15, and 16, Jesus assures us that He is with us, speaking to us through His Word and present in the sacraments, offering peace that surpasses all understanding. Moreover, Jesus emphasizes the importance of prayer, teaching us to ask the Father in His name and promising that our joy will be complete. This intertwining of peace and prayer guides us to live each day in communion with God, starting with morning prayers, giving thanks at meals, and ending the day entrusting ourselves to God's care. Thus, in Christ, we find not only peace but also the strength to face the world's tribulations with courage and hope.

Our Lord Jesus, in the upper room, contrasts the selfish hate in Judas' heart with His own selfless love, exemplified by washing His disciples' feet--a task none of them undertook, highlighting their reluctance to perform such a menial service. This act was not just about physical cleanliness but was deeply symbolic, teaching the disciples about humility and service. Jesus' interaction with Peter underscores this lesson, as Peter initially refuses the foot washing. Jesus explains that without accepting such service, Peter cannot fully partake in His ministry. This narrative extends beyond mere foot washing to a broader spiritual cleansing, akin to baptism, where believers are continually cleansed from sin through confession and absolution, maintaining the purity bestowed in baptism. This act of washing feet is a precursor to the ultimate act of selfless love--Christ's crucifixion, where He lays down His life for humanity. Thus, Jesus commands us to love one another as He has loved us, a love characterized by humility, service, and self-sacrifice, challenging our often skewed perceptions of love with the true, sacrificial love demonstrated by Christ.
