Shawna was getting her heart ready for a prayer service she’d be serving in. She asked God to reveal any unknown sin in her life. And He did! Not to shame her, but to love her. “ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1John 1:7-9).
Perry wonders, “Why does God love me, especially when there are so many reasons for him not to.” Then, it’s easy to get caught up in the here and now and lose sight of eternity. Jesus says “Anyone who loves their life will lose it while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.” How can we live with eternity in mind?
Next, before Jesus, we were like “a lifeless form, after a dreadful storm.” But the Spirit breathed his life into us! And last, is missions about humanitarian work or winning souls for Jesus? Should our efforts be focused on meeting physical needs? Or sharing the good news of God’s love? Noel Brewer Yeatts says, “Both!”
In her new book Both: Living Outside the Either/Or of Your Faith Noel presents a compelling vision for what modern missions can be: a robust and holistic expression of embodied faith “on earth as it is in heaven.”
Noel shares compelling stories of people overseas whose lives were changed, first, by meeting thier immediate felt needs. Then, by the love of Christ that compelled someone to meet those needs.
