Last week, we started at a section of the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus starting comparisons between two things. These comparisons were largely given to illustrate the need for His audience to make choices related to His teaching. First, He compared two gates and two ways as an illustration for entrance into the Kingdom. Second, Jesus was comparing False and True Prophets. We will continue with that pairs comparison this morning and look at an example that ties both of these first two pairs' comparisons together.

Pope Leo Is A False Prophet

The primary work of the Holy Spirit as defined by Jesus in John 16, is to reprove the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Nowhere does the Scripture teach that the work or evidence of the Holy Spirit is to generate emotional excitement or supernatural displays. Many modern church practices, such as an emphasis on speaking in tongues or intense emotional responses, are misidentified as the Spirit's work and may instead be deceptive, fleshly, or even the work of Satan. 1 John 4:1 tells us "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world." The work of the Spirit of God will always direct attention to Jesus Christ. True salvation is evidenced by a surrendered life to Christ's lordship and a conviction that only His righteousness can save - not by excitement and emotionalism, and what appear to be supernatural happenings. The exaltation of Christ is the ultimate proof of the Holy Spirit's presence.

What is it to judge justly Jesus Christ? It is to judge who He is by the standard of truth and not by what those who hate Him say about Him! There are many voices that speak false things concerning Jesus Christ. Those false voices influence those who listen to them to not believe upon Christ. Be careful to whom you listen! Christ Jesus is life, none who come to Him will be disappointed!
