When we refuse to acknowledge the racist acts going on in our communities, are we becoming a part of the problem. People asks what can they do to get involved and the answer is simple..say something. Protestors are walking the streets of America right now saying that they believe the racist acts against blacks is wrong. They believe that with their voices, change will take place. The protests are against racism, not a race. The anger is about how so many blacks are killed by racist white cops and racist white people. The looting and the protests are two completely different things but two different groups of people with two different motives. When we remain silent, we feed the racism.

The Coronavirus has cause a pandemic for our world. Most of us have been affected, particularly our children.

The world as they know it has seemingly stopped without warning. The stores have closed. Schools are now closed so learning at home is the only option. Extracurricular activities that they were once involved in have all ceased.

They are probably asking questions. I believe that if a child is old enough to ask a question they should receive an age appropriate (or mental capacity) answer.

Shonda shed over 100 pounds when she changed her diet. She explains how her love for educating her students through STEM also encourages her to tackle the tough stuff in her own life. Sherri describes how she was once the caretaker of her own child, so she understands firsthand what the millions of caretakers in this world experiences. What both Sherri and I both know is that caretakers must find ways to care for ourselves. As she mentions in the podcast, Sherri has been to more funerals for the caretaker than she has the patient. For myself, taking walks or even doing a little retail therapy after dropping my mom off at dialysis does wonders. I also like to take my daughters out on short road trips each week just to get them out of the sick environment and to help them still enjoy their childhood. As Christians, The Bible commands us to honor our father and mother as it pleases God and adds value to our own lives (Ephesians 6:1-3). For many of us, including myself, respecting the years of hard work that our parents have sacrificially given to us, makes this commandment a lot easier to endure. When I think of how my parents committed to giving my siblings and I a healthy, well-rounded life as children, I'm able to fervently care for my mom today with that same level of commitment. Just as my mom fed, bathed, and clothed me as a child, I now care for my mom today in that same capacity. Sometimes our lives are not 'as picture perfect' as we'd like. We don't get to choose what families we are born into. We often have childhood experiences that could completely eradicate us. For some, it did. But for others like Deanna, the reigns of life must be taken back by the tiny morsel of strength that we have left. We do get to choose how the context of our lives is written in the present. Deanna chose to accept her mom's inabilities as the compass of providing her own daughters with a healthier definition of motherhood. Perception is everything!
