Family Worship

Family Worship brings the church service to you, on air Sundays at 9am and 7:30pm and now on demand, wherever you get your podcasts.

Every week a special guest pastor will bring a message that will speak to your head and heart.

It's the first Sunday of Advent, which means the Christmas season has well and truly arrived.

Today's message comes from Derek Peters, Executive Pastor at Gateway Baptist Church, and host of the 96five podcast The Secret Place.  The prophet Isaiah is quoted in the book of Matthew with one of the names of Jesus - Emmanuel - meaning God with us.

In this message, Derek unpacks how humanity and God are connected together.  It's a thought provoking message that will help us move into the Christmas season for another year.

Joy Graetz is part of the leadership team at Cornerstone Christian Church in Alderley, and in this message looks at how family, both now and in the past, has rarely been a picture of perfection.

It's comforting to know that even in Biblical times, family life has been messy, but how did things change when Jesus was born into his family?

And how should we respond when family does not look like what we expected?

This week we welcome Ben Fein, the Community Pastor at Oasis Church in Bray Park.  Ben looks at the confronting topic of money and how Australians are among the richest in the world. It's a confronting topic as Jesus explains how hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God. But through the story of Zacchaeus, God's powerful grace is reviled over out wealth.

Today is World Mission Sunday in the Catholic Church, with the month of October also having a focus on missions. World Mission Sunday is coordinated by Missio, the Pope’s official charity for world mission, and ensures that support reaches communities most in need in areas of great poverty, conflict and turmoil.

Today's message comes from Reverend Doctor Peter Pellicaan, a married deacon in the Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane. Reverend Doctor Pellicaan's message is about the mission of not just the Catholic Church, but the global church, both at home and on distant shores, and how despite our differences we can all work together with a mission focus.

Reverend Doctor Peter Pellicaan is a Deacon in the Archdiocese of Brisbane. He currently serves as the Executive Director of Evangelisation Brisbane, an Agency of the Archdiocese of Brisbane. Peter is married with five children, and has a wealth of experience in leadership in the Church as well as academic qualifications which include a Bachelor of Ministries, a Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching, a Masters in Learning and Development and a Ph.D. in theology from the University of Notre Dame Australia.
